EcoScore: A tool to measure environmental footprint
The environmental footprint has become a major concern in today’s society, and companies are increasingly aware of the impact of their products and services. In this context, the Ministry of Health developed the EcoScore, a service for calculating this footprint aimed at web and mobile application developers. What is the EcoScore?
The goal is to allow application developers, such as BOTdesign, to understand the ecological impact of their product and offer solutions to reduce it. The calculation of the EcoScore is based on a standardized method developed by ADEME (The French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management) and takes into account various indicators such as energy consumption, water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, waste production, and their management. The EcoScore is therefore a comprehensive tool that allows for a precise measurement of an application’s impact. The EcoScore is also a necessary tool for listing in Mon Espace Santé. Indeed, to be listed on this online health platform, applications must provide their EcoScore. This requirement aims to promote applications with a low ecological footprint and encourage developers to adopt more sustainable practices. The EcoScore is a tool that can have a significant impact on the environment. By encouraging developers to consider the environmental impact of their applications, it can help reduce the overall footprint of the digital sector.BOTdesign’s Commitment
In this regard, BOTdesign is committed to digital sobriety and has achieved an EcoScore of 73 out of 100, ranking us in the top 10 responsible web and mobile health applications!
BOTdesign takes into account the issues of climate change and sustainable development. Indeed, we have implemented:
- optimized communication between servers and devices through WebSocket
- a smart interface that only displays the essentials for users
- the use of the HTTP2 protocol
However, the EcoScore only considers the impact of solutions on client devices. At BOTdesign, we believe it is important to go further. We are mindful of the server consumption of our applications, which is why we are demanding about the quality of our code, ensuring it does not consume more memory and CPU than necessary, and that our algorithms are optimized for efficiency, etc.
In conclusion, the EcoScore is an important tool for measuring the environmental footprint of an application. It allows us, as publishers, to understand our impact, propose solutions to reduce it, and thus be part of this process that concerns us all.
